A moment of prayer, silence and respect to those departed. Very sad news. Thank you for sharing.

Hats off to a dangerous job. Lost a friend when his chopper clipped a line while doing inspections.

Yea, sure, we wish! But, what is a lot of money? I suppose, to give thanks for my blessings, my cup surely does runneth over. Two ways to be rich: make more or require less.

Gratitude! Your comprehension of the physics involved eclipses my feeble attempts. May all who seek find your words and understand. Thank you for taking time to offer illumination. (pun intended)

The arcing is continuous because you have A/C, not DC power. The helicopter is charged and discharged 60 times a second as the power goes postive/negative. Best to think of the helicopter as a capacitor and then study how a capacitor behaves in an a/c circuit.

Yikes. Awfully close with that tail rotor.

@Mozart2Vienna Because the helicopter is exiting the "corona" which is around the wire. Basically the helicopter does not have voltage running through it. The same concept as a bird on wire, except with a human, birds cannot sit on those wires because they carry in excess of 300,000 volts but a human can with the farady suit, as you can see in the video.
