@rsandler2804 totally. i'm pretty sure that on the record it's a les paul, big muff and a hiwatt, but i could be wrong. in the picture on the back of the record i think he's playing through a hiwatt. there's also a travis bean in the background, i think. i've looked on line for berton averre axology stuff but have never found anything.

@uberscheisse
I am the same way so I will give you my two cents worth. Play the lead at about ¾ of the normal speed so your fingers get used to what you are about to put them through. Pack a lunch because this is a long one. Another thing that gets me is the guitar sound. This was recorded in 1979. AMAZING in my opinion anyway!!

@demoderocks
Let's go further than that... the band was underrated and they were all great at what they did. It was a perfect match all the way around. If you ever have the chance to see Getting The Knack it is a great documentary from when they first got together until they started to fall apart. That video made me break out the CD and listen to it all over again. I am a guitar player and it was like hearing it again for the first time.

I can play this solo note for note but I have to take a break halfway through. I'd start a Knack tribute band if we would be taken seriously for having an intermission in this song.

He really rips it up on their third album "round trip" on a song called Africa.
Great player.

Patsik (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Fantastic guitar solo!
Nobody should be allowed to copy this one.
There's just one way to play it and that's by Berton. |
