Well if blockbuster and all those local video stores aren't around because of netflix and redbox, the consequences are obvious. Many, many people will have no source of income.Why Netflix and redbox are so cheap is that it does not cost as much to hire people compared to blockbusters.

It's only sad their demise has come only after all the small chains were killed off. Rather like what's happening with Borders, actually. They gorged themselves buying up other bookstores, and then go belly up because of their lousy selection and crummy pricing.

Blockbuster has online customer service that answers within 24 hours. BB has new releases 28 days before NR or redbox. BB rents online games. You can trade mail movies and games, for instore ones. BB trades scratched diskst right away at your neartest BB. With the right device you can stream new movies with BB. As a NF subscriber I can fairly say that BB outshines NF. I keep NF for convenience, there are no new movies on NF, and the TV shows are segmented. Why R people happy accepting crap?

Blockbuster deserves to close-outrageous rental fees(even older movies), crap customer service, $5 or more per item, terrible online service(sent damaged DVD's or wrong one), and lastly-they destroy their inventory with a machine that puts dots on the disc to make it unreadable(instead of selling cheap or donating them). Corporate greed is the bottom line-Redbox and DVDplay will soon replace them, so good riddance.
And Netflix outsmarted their online business tactics with quality service etc.
