I remember flying on the DC-10 a few times during the 80s. This includes overseas trips from the US to Sweden as well. Classic airliner!

The Fatal Accident Rate for the DC-10 is 0.65 events per million flights. There have been 15 fatal flights out of 9.03 Million flights. The Fatal Accident Rate for the Boeing 737 (this includes newer and older generations) is 0.31 fatal accidents per million flights. There have been 71 fatal flights out of 158.29 Million flights. If you include only the newer generations of Boeing 737 it is .12 fatal accidents per Million flights. So yes.....DC stands for Death Can

The DC-10 may have had a bad accident history but statistical facts still remain - your more likely to die in a car accident than you are in the air. Plus I believe Biman are gradually phasing out dc-10 and a310 fleets for the T73ER and Dreamliner.

Those were the halcyon days of airliners.
