Brief overview, shooting, and evaluation of the Speer Gold Dot, 9mm 124 gr +P. This is a very popular cartridge for Law Enforcement and the law-abiding citizen. Test platform was a Glock 19, using jugs packed with wet newspaper. Just trying to gain a basic concept of penetration and expansion in this type of media. On this channel, there is also a similar test for the 147 grain Gold Dot. PLEASE NOTE: Ballistic tests such as this will provide a representation of handgun cartridge performance in a controlled environment. Please bear in mind that self-defense scenarios include multiple variables that will impact actual ballistic performance.

@TheL4dgamer I once got into an argument with a buddy of mine over Hi-Points guns. He said to me "if you had 200 to spend and needed something for self defense, you woudln't buy a hi-point." I said no. He asked, "well what then." I responded with "I would buy 10 boxes of hollow points and get really good at throwing."

@jasongtivr6 I really don't understand the folks who disrespect the 9mm. It's a cheap, widely available round--read, that's a good thing, especially if you're considering WROL scenarios. People seem to forget that 99% of the game is being able to put rounds in the right place and be the first one doing it. If I pop a couple of 9mm hollow points into your chest cavity, you're going down, fellah. If you *do* keep coming, it's not because I didn't use a .40 caliber, okay?

@TheL4dgamer actaully the 9mm ain't bad. my buddy picked one up at a pawn shop (he didn't know any better). i shot it about 40 rounds and it wasn't too bad. very ugly gun though. lol

@herrbrahms Last year I got a deal on a case of that Winchester Ranger 124FMJ. It was advertised as 1185 fps NATO spec ammo. I still have a few boxes. Some of the best fmj I've had. Interesting about the 147s and suppressors.I imagine they would work better for subsonic than the lighter bullets. Coincidently, just the other day I was reading some load data for 357sig and 38 super. There were a few loads with 147 gold dots that looked good on paper in those calibers. Agree on the 124+Ps for carry.
