Robert H. Lustig, MD, UCSF Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology, explores the damage caused by sugary foods. He argues that fructose (too much) and fiber (not enough) appear to be cornerstones of the obesity epidemic through their effects on insulin. @dialectical44 You misunderstood Bashaleya1's comment, he was talking about blood cholesterol or LDL, the kind Robert Lustig talks about. By reducing sugar consumption he has found it has dropped - a good thing

Fruit is healthy, but a lot of fruits all at once is toxic to your body. When I ate 5 apples (although healthy) for a meal, I encountered fructose malabsorption and suffered from fatigue, depression, weight gain, bloating, abdominal cramps, flatuluence, headache, foggy thinking, etc. Your body has a limit to the amount of fructose you can consume at one setting. Keep track of your fructose tolerance level, which will help you reach an ideal weight.

I wonder if fructose contributes to Benign Prostate Hypertrophy.

@Bashaleya1 Why are you worried about your cholesterol?. It is a vital nutrient. There is no reason to limit it. The Diet Heart Hypothesis that implicates cholesterol and saturated fat was started by the Vegetable Oil and Shortening lobbies in the second half of the twentieth century. This talk is NOT about cholesterol but about the way fructose is metabolized and how it causes metabolic syndrome and other diseases like Chronic Kidney disease and High blood pressure.

@andrychowiczmeli Glucose is not metabolized into fructose!. There is no reason to even bring up glucose when you really understand how fructose is metabolized. You are a guinea pig of the Capitalist Institution called "Modern Medicine." I'll bet you eat food with sucrose (table sugar), fructose along with fruit juice and whole fruits. Stop fructose in ANY for: Honey, Maple syrup, fruit juice, whole fruits, table sugar (in it's myriad of forms)

Hey Guys, My cholesterol has been creeping up over the years. For two years, I cut way down on fat-- cut out cheese, drank only skim milk etc. Cholesterol still creeping up. THEN for the past year I put back the cheese, ate lots of nuts, even a little butter (gasp!), and cut out all added sweeteners, started checking labels for sugar content (shock!). LDL went down 30 points, HDL up 13. Let's see if these results can be replicated-- try it yourselves!

@andrychowiczmeli So you start out by saying that it's genetics then you jump to home cooked meals and less processed foods. Are you hedging your bets? What do you mean by less processed foods. Does that mean less added sweetners that include fructose? As far as the studies go you have a google search bar. Investigate them and answer your own questions. Of course they were were controlled studies!!!!
