Queen - Live Aid - Part 2 (2/5)

13.07.1985, London (Wembley Stadium), England Most of top artists of that time were present at this mega-famous festival and Queen of course had to be there. Each artist got from ten to twenty minutes for their show; no playback or soundcheck were allowed. Queen hesitated because playing without a soundcheck is always a risk. But then they accepted the rules and their 20 minutes of fame came on at 18:44 GMT. Queen were on top form and not only according to Bob Geldof and Elton John, they stole the show. They played only the intro to Bohemian Rhapsody (the opera part couldn't be played from the tape as playback was forbidden & there wasn't enough time anyway). Instead of the opera part, Radio Ga Ga followed. We Will Rock You was reduced to the first verse (and the final guitar solo) only. Is This The World We Created was performed by Freddie and Brian only later in the evening. 03: Hammer To Fall 04: Crazy Little Thing Called Love

@Yo1969Yo Except for the drums.. the reason Queen sounded so much bigger than Zeppelin is because the kick drum had no port hole (kind of like the John Bonham's approach to drum tuning - big - open - no muffling, with high tension). Roger Taylor understood this tuning concept and that concept helped shape Queen's sound... just sayin'

@murphyrobert72 Right, I see your point! Well they had their own sound crew, and apparantly their sound engineer, a guy named Trip, switched the sound limiters so Queen would be louder. You have to watch the documentary if you're interested in the band, it's very interesting!

@redd88jess1 True story, their sound engineer, Trip, apparantly 'switched the sound limiters so that Queen would be louder'. They also had the advantage of having played in stadiums before, they knew the tricks!

@LoveMusic067 Hi, after being on RCA records, I found out your sound man makes you or makes you suck, in the studio same thing, I am glad they had someone to make sure thier sound was right , becuase if you dont you can be playing the best guitar, keys, and without the sound guy turning you up, no one will ever know it, by the way how do you know they knew the sound man? just curious..not prying, Im not revealing my idenity..
