@tomisinakatkid just for your ultur, try to listen to Jazz, Drummers are often using that in Jazz, it is to make the drum more light, a "Tchhhhh, Tchhhhh" sound :)

Those are drum brushes. They aren't one solid piece like a spatula. They have a frey-type of tip to get a softer sound out of a snare drum instead of the regular pop you would get from your average wooden drumstick.
