HOME Making-Of : Los Angeles

Los Angeles, a sprawling conurbation with a population of 17 million, is constantly animated by the traffic on its tangle of end-to-end freeways. At night, the glow of the lights hides the stars in the night sky from the inhabitants of the city of movie stars. Their automobiles enable them to travel from their homes to work every day and to live in residential suburbs far from the inner cities, but this way of life, made popular and desirable by books, TV shows and movies, is not sustainable. This individualistic, consumer lifestyle requires a lot of space and burns a lot of valuable energy. http://www.home-2009.com

Like many cities, LA has grown beyond what city planners initially anticipated. We are trying to adopt more sustainable practices in every possible way. From buying organic at farmers markets, to commuting via bus, hybrid taxi or bike when possible and sustainably designed public buildings. It's not a perfect place but it's home to many who would not trade it for the world...

I believe it is wonderful city...mostly from what I saw in the movies... But on this video - I saw nothing but city lights by night. I'm sure it has much more to offer even if it's for a one minute video... :(

San Francisco is SO MUCH BETTER than LA. I've lived in Cali my whole life and it's no competition. Anyone who grew up in SoCal can tell you the honest truth. I graduated high school in '08 from an upper-middle class neighborhood. Most of my classmates moved out. Most went to the following: San Fransisco, San Jose, Oregon, or Arizona. SoCal is not a good place to be in anymore.

Born and raised in the LA county. LA traffic is perpetually horrible (even at 2 am). The air quality will change from one day to the next (somewhat clear during rain and cold weather with dense smog during hot days). The water quality is very questionable. Positives? You have everything you could ever imagine within driving distance. Every economic, social, ethnic, and cultural class can be found in LA. It is very cosmopolitan with so much diversity.
