I think that part where it jumped the freeway (at Newhall Ave - what used to be San Fernando Rd.) is in one of the time lapse sequences here... most of this vid is looking that direction from the top of Sierra Hwy. It got pretty scary at times - watching all that fire heading right towards the heavy population areas in the SCV. I'm glad it didn't cause any more destruction than it did. @BeautyXTwisted Prior, my friends gatheredd outside and watch the Placerita Fire make it's way down from the other side. It was small, but very threatening, because we have an oil plant stationed at the bottom. It was pretty cool to see the two planes swoop down and take it out. If they hadn't, we'd have gone bye-bye if that fire hit the oil plant..

It seriously wasnt a happy time during those fires. I lived in the The Terrace, just above The Village in Newhal right by Placerita. We were sitting at the benches and watched the distant smoke from Castaic Fire. and watch the Sylmar fire burn dow the hill to the cemetary right by the freeway. And it jumped the 14 freeway and continured destroying. There were people all over Docweiler Rd, parked ann watching the fire. Looking back...you sit there and think...I was there.. o3o

aww, thats sweet. offer the poor guy some assistance though. sounds like a decent guy, a shame he hasnt a place to call home.

My Mom has her store write down that street. Every morning as we opend the store this homeless mad would greet us. then we didnt see him for when i asked the other men he use to be with they told me he had severly been burned in this fire and he had been in the Hospital for over 3months in critical condition. thankfully i saw him again even though he has not fully recovered he is back greeting us goodmorning everyday... All is lost but much is Gained God Bless everyone...

Considering all the fires we have here, it's surprising how little I get out to film them. I'm sure I've missed a lot of great photo ops!
I used two cameras on this one; a Canon 5S-IS for the time lapse clips, (nice, clear HD), and a JVC MiniDV camcorder for the live shots. Unfortunately, the 50mph Santa Anas knocked-over the tripod/JVC into the dirt, coating the lens with a thick layer of dust that I didn't notice until later, hence the hazy-looking live action shots. :-(

Wow! What a great picture. I shoot for abc news and I live right here in Santa Clarita, so when a fire is on the rise, I have to go out and shoot it. It is very exciting, so I almost look foreward to fires, but of course I would rather them not exist. What camera did you use? |
