That is why even ex-catholic athiests seem to be reacting so strongly to this video. It seems to touch a deep nerve... which (being an ex-catholic myself) I understand. I can appreciate that many people don't understand what the big deal is. Just like I don't understand why burning a muslim prayer rug would be offensive to them... it's JUST a rug right?
I think athiests should be able to get their opinions across without desecrating the sacred objects of theists.. it achieves NOTHING.

@theatheistgal ok... so there's the difference. In the Methodist church the communion wafer REPRESENTS the body of christ. You can throw it around.. eat it.. not eat it.. whatever.. noone cares Catholics on the other hand believe that the blessed wafer is LITERALLY the body of christ.. if you mess with that wafer you literally mess with christ's body. A silly belief in my opinion but one they hold nonetheless.

@god5macked I was not catholic I already mentioned that. I was methodist and we would do pretty much the same thing.
The only difference I see is we would go up to the front and knell hand over hand, the pastor would put the bread in our hand. We would wait then they was a tiny glass thimble of grape juice that was placed to our right. We would say a prayer eat the bread and then take the drink. and then walk to the right.

And how come Satanists don't appear concerned about the gender-bound references to their Prince of Darkness? This probably appears as a rant: a) because I have a shitty writing style and b) it doesn't conveniently fit into any existing youtube niche. Perhaps I'm not even a bona fide agnostic. Maybe labels and competitive sarcasm don't constitute logical proofs. Sarcasm is good rhetoric but rhetoric really should only be used to back up logic -- not the other way around.

One last thing, I realize I'm pushing it, but some guy on youtube hauled off on a positive comment I made about Jesus, pretty much characterizing him as the worst asshole ever. All right, but then he's like: Worship Satan. Isn't Satan mythological? If he isn't, he gets undeserved credit for enlightening humanity. He's never mentioned in Genesis. A talking serpent is. What a cosmic Geico commercial! 15 minutes can give you the knowledge of good and evil and more. In Job Satan is a jerk. |
