By changing her name she means she told Jesus he could make her over in his image...be reborn in Christ and leave her former self behind. The persecution she describes can be found in various instances in history...but the love of God and Christ overcomes all.

I love this song. I am not a Christian but to me it perfectly describes the commitment one must make to achieve any type of personal transformation. Very meaningful.

I think she means Changing her name from more of a biblical stand point then that of a slave stand point. God changed many peoples name throughout the Bible such as (Abram to Abraham, Sarai to Sarah, and Saul to Paul) as a way of stating that he was ready for them to begin doing his work. I always thought this song was a way of telling the Lord I am ready to do your work so by changing my name you are changing my very character. |
