This seems to be a strangely significant song for many people to remember loved ones, especially Mums and Grans. My old Nan loved Jim Reeves too. I remember she had dozens of old LP records with him on the cover. Whenever I see a Jim Reeves picture I always think of her.

I don't understand why there are negative comments about this song. I was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam for over two years and this song makes me swell with pride for my efforts and better understand the hardship it placed on my wife and daughter. I simply do not undertand the people who belittle and mock those of us who risked our lives for our country.

This song was about a distant war and losing someone to it. Viet Nam took so many of my generation. I remember this song as it came on a demo 8 track with my new 66 Mustang Convertible and my husband left for Viet Nam in 1967. He came home but was never the same. He later took his own life. So many lost to a useless war. |
