HAHA THIS IS THE EXACT PUNISHMENT LITTLE KIDS GET Wow... I didn't know there was a purpose behind it..!

Hurray,
This was part of chastisement for us kids growing up in India when we did something wrong and our parents punished us. Quick innocuous and now it seems, even good for the brain!

the tamilians figured it out centuries ago... it's the good old " thoppukaaranam" !!! Parents insist that their kids do it in the morning....incredible.... that's the beauty.. very very deep and life -quality enhancing techniques were woven into simple everyday practices....

Oh my god! we used to do this during vinaayaka chaturthi but we never knew what it was for. It was thought to be superstition. Again some westerner has to open our eye that what we had been doing for ages wasn't exactly superstition...

OMG, I used to do this at the temple in front of Ganpati. I also used to knock my fists against my temples (called kuttu in Tamil)
