@RamblinmadRadio An Argentinian film called El Apostel in 1918 is currently the oldest known feature length animation, but Lotte Reiniger's The Adventure Of Prince Ahmad is the oldest surviving one. Interestingly they're both cut-out style; it looks so good :')

The only thing this has to do with the original fairy tale is them being drawn to the gingerbread house and eating it, the witch putting Gretel to work and Hansel in a cage. I think that's it.

Does anyone remember, almost 60 years ago, these Lotte Reiniger films being shown for children at The Red Lion pub in Thorrington, Essex? While the adults were hitting the hard stuff inside the public bar, us kids were sitting in a converted garage or shed called Kinema Kate's Kiddies Counter where, apart from the continuous film shows, sweets and soft drinks could be purchased. Incidently, the name of this place was derived from the landlady, Kate, whose husband Horace was the innkeeper.
