@oasisftw They're both big-tooth blondes with album covers of them wearing berets photographed by Norman Stieff. Musically, they are both influenced by Laura Nyro. Lyrically, they are both great poets but Joni tended to speak of her over-analysis of her failed love affairs while Rickie painted evocative images of the boho life. They are both great but there is something about Rickie that stuns me.

He was a bit condescending to her. She is amazing; not since Laura Nyro has there been anyone as soulful and passionate as Rickie Lee Jones.

I noticed Rickie Lee Jones first album and my ex-wife 30 years ago for the very first time - Rickie Lee's music is still with me! And I replaced my marriage-picture with a picture of Rickie and me after her Austrian concert! She's the best one!!!!!!! |
