Sorry about my Blackstar comment, it's no the amp I prefer ! Marshall Plexi & JCM800 are the best amps ever and I prefer them !

Best Marshall tone ever heard ! It's hard to find good Marshall's nowadays i prefer Blackstar's but modded Marshall's kick's ass !

@FJAMods I'm still checking out your site, and I'm about to go an amp buying binge hopefully I can send one your way and hear your work myself. Sounds great as far as I can tell through the computer.

@FJAMods Yea, actully I did write that wrong. I meant that horizontal 50's can be a great deal because people tend to stay away from them. I had a 50 with horizontal inputs that was great. In 85 Marshall changed the filtering and power supply, & removed a filter capacitor on the 100's. So they're not any worse cuz of the inputs, just the fact that they did some cost cutting on the 2203's in 85. But they didn't change the 2204's at all.

@Benends There's nothing wrong with the horizontal input amps at all. That whole internet folklore thing is nuts. Mainly made up by internet forum "experts" and sellers on Ebay to drive up their price. There are differences, but they are still great amps. I doubt 95% of the people could tell the difference without looking at the front panel of the amp.

@synth002 The basics to picking an 800 are this.. stick to the single channel ones 2204/2203's. if you get a 100 watter make sure it was built before 1985 (vertical inputs), if it's a 50 watt( my preference) you can go into at least 1987 with horizontal inputs and be fine, possibly even later. 50 watters with vert inputs are a good deal cause a lot of people shun them, but they didn't get the cost cuts the 100s did in 85 (at least not as early anyway).

what a tone! man the subtleties here are absolutely fantastic. this is one of the best amps i've ever heard. why doesn't everyone sounds like this when i walk into guitar center??? i don't get the amp business... great stuff, man
