H&K USP Compact .40: Couple Notches from Perfect

I have lots of experience behind the triggers of H&K pistols and they do have a lot to offer. They're tough, accurate, reliable, rust resistant, and well-made. But even after thousands of rounds through the H&K USPs like this one, I'm still not a fan of the gun. The competition is just better in several areas. I find the trigger guard protrusion (inside the guard), the flexing trigger, the weirdly placed magazine release, and proprietary light rail all very annoying. Even H&K pistols like the P2000 or Compact Tactical inherit these flaws. These points detract from an otherwise fine design for me. And even though it's a compact handgun it still weighs over five ounces more than a full size Glock! Add to that a more expensive purchase price and that sinks it for me. For my money I would go with either Sig or Glock over the H&K USP series. Correction: I meant to say DA to SA trigger module (being the standard)

I think HK went with that style of mag release to prevent the shooter from dropping the mag when they really don't want to, like when you're getting ruff, changing stances, going prone, ect, a normal button style mag release may accidentally get pressed, if the shooter isn't careful. Or for when it's holstered for long periods of time. I know it doesn't happen very often, but the HK push down release is just insurance. It's all personal preference, though. Thanks for the good review.

@Ionracas85 He is not saying if youre only carrying the gun. he is talking like the dudes in afganistan, carrying 100 pounds of gear, 5 ounces in that situation is a big deal (Especially if you cut the weight of every item by 10 percent, it doesnt seem like much, but that adds up.

Run faster and fatigue less? It dosnt weigh 40lbs. I just shot the USP for the first time two days ago. If your tired because of the weight of this gun, you probably dont need to be in a situation where you need one. Sorry, Im not trying to be a di*k, that statement just made me laugh.

@Morepullups He should have compared it to a .40, but the 9 and 40 glocks are basically the same weight, and other than the barrel, they are the exact same size.

LOL! online with sig's and Glocks????ROFL HK is Premiere for the world fore firearms. Where talking Seals, SAS etc. Retention plate being knocked off on the mag has happened to me on glock and jammed.

It's a 40 not a 9mm? its going to be heavier? Why compare it against a Glock 17?

The mag release and the trigger guard hump don't bother me but the flex trigger does, I think that has a lot to do with that loooong and thin trigger design, hk needs to come up with something better as far as that part..

i have seen in cdnn and other companys that sell higher cap mags for usp's like 15 and 30 rd mags,,, so there out there you just got to look

Umm, you compared a .40 gun to a 9mm in mag capacity. You cant compare the USPC .40 to a G17 9mm, the 9mm USPC holds 13 rounds. Where the G19 holds 15 rounds, that would be fare.
