My point exactly, and I find that At The Gates are melodic in the typical DM-way, rather than like bands like Insomnium and In Flames.

Well bands like insomnium dare to use clean vocals whilst Death metal is tuned down guitars going dum dum dum without much of a clean vocalist in it xD. But I would not say that Death metal is not melodic, it's just molodic in another way.

I sort of agree on that one, 'cept for Kalmah (never really liked them that much).
To twist Einstein's quote on religion, I think that metal without melody is dull, and that melody without metal is blind.

Death Metal: Nile, Monstrosity, Cannibal Corpse, Immolation, Kataklysm etc.
Melodeath: Insomnium, Kalmah, Dark Tranquility and yes At the gates too.
It's just a bit to melodic to realy be death metal.
