I don't think it is even possible to construct a timeline of Zelda games. To me, it seems like most of them take place in completely different realms of existence. I am new to the series, I just downloaded the original Legend of Zelda on my Wii and I'm at the end. But from what I know of the series, it seems like the games are not meant to relate to each other. The Hyrule, the Link, and the Zelda, of one game, are in a completely different realm of existence than those of another.

its called link to the past cause of the localization team not wanting to upset people with religious references, the real name is "triforce of the gods" zelda is not like sonic where usa and japan have separate stories (until sonic adventure). zelda stories are made by japan and they stay the same no matter where they are played
