Just thinking aloud: Does she always mention the promise ring to make it clear she is not married, therefore available? If so, smart woman. Why? Because a good man, one with real integrity would automatically leave her alone because of the ring. She doesn't want to miss out on "her husband" if and when he sees her (with the ring). :-) Gooooood.
