I don't think Nokia is producing "substandard" mapping/navigation software. Actually the current Ovi Maps with the integrated 3D buildings and landmarks is becoming richer and richer every passing day.
Don't forget that Nokia owns Navteq and their knowhow. Combine that with their own mobile experience solutions (hardware and software) and you have some pretty nice mobile-aware apps.

Yes, you are right. However, Nokia has announced that it wants to grow it's US market share. As goes the US phone market, so goes most of the world.
The point is not to create a substandard copy of good software that already exists. There already is global mapping software with API's, ready for Nokia to use.
But Nokia wants to go it alone, and attempt to create the software AND the hardware. And you know what? Nokia sucks at software. This is something that we in the US understand.

USA is the only market for nokia? really, how more ignorant can you get?wake up kid, theres a world outside USA

No one in America uses Ovi maps; barely anyone in the US uses Nokia phones. Frankly, I don't see how this product is going to gain any traction.
It's the phones Nokia. Stick to what you do best and make a phone to rule them all. As long as resources are wasted on services no one uses, you are going to lose market share.
And to the person who made the remark about Apple. As a convert from E71 to iPhone, I can tell you the Apple is much better. At least it has software I want.

The Ovi SDK together with the new APIs seem to be the next big thing for the Ovi ecosystem.
Indeed the "mashup" approach is working very nicely for mobile devices which are relatively low at resources and screen estate. Providing vital information in a fast and efficient way is paramount!
Developers don't have excuses anymore not to program innovative position-aware applications. Now, let's see some creativity!! :)
