that pilot is a brave man. he thought of the possibilities. he knew that they probably wern't gonna make it to an airport so he made thebrave desion to go to the river. his desicion may have saved many lives

DId he land with the gear riased or lowered. I would imagine the choice for water landing would be to leave the gear raised to try and prevent disruption from the effect of the gear hitting the water stream. ALso you would want to prevent drag when gliding to your landing point
