maybe what helped him stay calmer was the fact that he knew this plane was designed to be especially tail heavy, thus allowing a water landing without a breakup or flip of the jet. Kudos to the engineers that designed it, something I never heard the "hero" say! Even a flight attendant told me they knew this. Why is captain keeping it a secret? Fire the flight attendant that opened rear door, almost drowning people. They are trained not to open rear doors on this jet in event of water landing.

It never ceases to amaze me how composed the controller and pilots are. I know pilots are trained for these emergencies, but I would've expected even a little tinge of fear in Sully's (or the co-pilot's) voice. But they remained as calm as ever

In Russia, jets land on water all time...

Did anyone catch the ATC calling him 1529?

The pilot sounds like overlord from Call Of Duty, so calm in the midst of chaos. But still this guy is a fucking legend.

It took a seperate boat just for the Captain's balls.

It's all in the training. I crash-landed a fast private airplane at Leeds/Bradford International (LBIA) with about 50 hours solo on my log-book. LBIA has serious wind problems sitting as it does atop a hill. Wind-shear got me, but I made it thanks to the training (and many a bollocking) I received from Alec Webster and John Fenton from Yorkshire Aero Club. After the incident, the Club and LBIA were relieved to learn no damage to the aircraft had been sustained!! Oh, by the way, I was OK too...
