@EnglishChannel1 continues... the line at the end "its summer I can taste the salt of the sea, theres a kite blowing out of control on the breeze, I wonder whats gonna happen to you, you wonder what has happened to me" particularly refers to that day with his kids on Killiney Hill. By the way, the comment at the very end: "thanks for hanging around" refers to how grateful the band are that their fans are still loyal to them here in 2001, following the distaster that was the "Pop" album and tour.

Bono said years ago that he had come home from tour and he took his kids for a walk up Killiney Hill, behind his house in south Dublin. He hadn't seen them for a few months and they had a nice walk, but seemed less interested that he thought they would. They then said to him "dad, lets go and play computer games" and they walked in the direction of the house. He said he wrote this song about that day. He has a close bond with his kids, but it was not blatantly obvious on that day.

Awesome song.. really deeply inspirational and moving. Found out his dad died 6 days after mine.. just before 9/11.. that was a really tough year.. I feel the sadness and will in this song.. as well as a very strong spirit in belief!! |
