The guitar is a 1955 Gretsch 6120 guess what ? Chet Atkins signature...his model has a slight variation with the bigsby handle that seems to be his first wire version as opposed to the stationary flat handle like Eddy Cochran (who had the same guitar modified with a P-90 pickup on the neck). The 6120 is The 50's guitar the gentleman is The 60's guitar, not quite the same style. Both brilliant. As for Chet Atkins...Superb all the way ! Closest on Youtube: check out Chet1952 Heartaches

He started a trend! I see Billy Byrd with his guitar behind him and guess that Hank Garland came along later and ruled the jazz world for awhile. Many people play guitar today because of Chet Atkins! Tommy Emmanuel does everything one step beyond but watch the new kid that will take over soon, Joe Robinson!

those days when music was good music and not looks. nothing wrong whith chets look, he was qute when young, but it wasn't about that. it was about music.

No doubt, Tommy Emmanuel has taken what Chet does up a notch. That said, nobody, including Tommy Emmanuel, is smoother with the style and especially the arpeggios than Chet. Chet, by the way is the real life guitar hero for Emmanuel, as well as many rock guitarists including George Harrison, Mark Knopfler, and Eric Clapton, to name but a few.
