Despite the fact that he wrote this concerto, ironically his performance is flat and utterly uninspiring. I think David Helfgott did a better job of performing this concerto than this stilted and robotic performance.

@samlab0920 To correct myself: After some curious research, I have learned that Rachmaninoff had been quoted to say "This is the way I always dreamed my concerto should be played, but I never expected to hear it that way on Earth." when speaking of Horowitz's interpretation of Rach's third piano concerto.

@samlab0920 To be fair, I have heard that for Rach's Prelude in C# minor, commonly known as The Bells of Moscow, Rachmaninoff himself was of the opinion that his student's interpretation of the piece was more accurate than his own. Though don't quote me on this, as I could very well be mistaken. |
