If you decide to upgrade to Logic Studio 2, you get Mainstage 2 and you can do exactly that.... You can trigger your backing tracks of unlimited length with MIDI data.

nope. You can however use soundflower to route to Logic. Get mainstage 2. you can record right in there.

Do you know if there is a way to route audio from MainStage, into Pro Logic 8 for recording a performance, or something of that nature?

One thing i would love to do in mainstage is to have my backing tracks set on the bottom key of my midi keyboard so i can hit my key, then my backing track start and i play over.
I've been trying to do it! i thought i could make my own exs24 instrument with the aiff on the key i want, then put it on mainstage with a split BUT my track fades out, and i've set the loop point for it to finish at the end, and one shot is off. whats the problem :) ? Thanks.

In the EXS24 Sampler, playback options are set in the Edit menu accessed in the upper right of the instrument window above the Level and Volume parameters. Select the zone for your sample and then scrolling to the right. With a zone selected you can assign the One Shot Trigger and/or Loop commands for all samples assigned to that zone.

One Shot Trigger will go thru the pattern once and stop.
Sustain will play the loop for as long as the MIDI note is held.
Toggle is MIDI trigger to start, the same MIDI trigger to stop, or a different MIDI note to start a different pattern.
Toggle on Step One is just like Toggle, only new patterns will wait until the down beat to begin playing.

This is handled in Ultrabeat by the Patter Mode controls at the bottom. Next to Pattern Mode's on/off switch is a drop down menu where you can select One Shot Trigger, Sustain, Toggle, and Toggle on Step One.

Unfortunately there is no native routing between Mainstage and Logic at this time.
Newer interfaces that offer up intuitive routing can provide for this purpose using their on-board DSP. Metric Halo's interfaces are capable of this as well as newer units from MOTU.
At this time however, the easiest way to achieve comparable results is to save all your Mainstage channel strips and then open them in Logic to record and use MIDI program changes to step between channels. |
