@packr72 depends on how many rounds you can carry/are supplied with. I dont think the m60 was specifically designed with a low rate of fire, and presumably they never had problems with the mg42's rate otherwise the replacement mg3 would have a heavier bolt as a simple means of lowering rof. How economical in terms of money is buying a whole heap of new hk121's? not very, so perhaps the reason is to keep money heading in h&k's direction

@gibbzyoicu812 okay hypothetical, if you really fire 1,200 rds/min, how long until you run outta of ammo. the m60 was designed to fire at 600 rpm probally to save ammo, the mg42 and its cold war counter part the mg3 are great guns but not very economical in terms of money, their is reason why the german army is replacing the mg3 with the hk121
